College receives Xenith Bank donation

College of The Albemarle received a $1,000 grant from Xenith Bank, a division of Union Bank & Trust of Richmond, Va., to support Basic Skills students.

Submitting a grant request through Xenith Bank, Wanda Fletcher, the college’s Basic and Transitional Studies Director, wanted to secure funds that would assist Basic Skills students’ transition to enroll in college curriculum programs of study.

Claudine Beaman, Vice President and Branch Manager at Xenith Bank in Elizabeth City, presented the check Jan. 22.

The grant will be used to cover the last high school equivalency test for students who are registered with the college, have applied for financial aid and are set to receive a final passing transcript.
