Dare commissioners set goals

At the end of the Feb. 5 meeting of the Dare County Board of Commissioners, Chairman Robert L. Woodard shared a final list of goals and priorities for the board for 2018.

Eight of the dozen goals were compiled from a workshop the board held Nov. 5, 2017. Since Jan. 22, four more goals were added. The commissioners informally agreed to advance the goals as listed.

County manager Robert L. Outten told the board he intended to share the goals with department heads on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Outten reported that budget requests from departments were due at the end of February.

-Maintain support of our fishing industry

-Continue upholding Beach Nourishment as a Board priority

-Maintain the current funding formula for Dare County Schools

-Continue the efforts that are underway for Economic Development

-Move forward with the Board’s plans for College of The Albemarle Dare County campus

-Continue the Board’s proactive measures for Inlet Maintenance

-Actively monitor legislation in Raleigh with assistance from McGuire Woods

-Complete the plan for consolidation of County buildings for maximum efficiency

-Maintain high profile support for efforts to reduce substance abuse and drugs in our communities

-Reinforce opposition to seismic testing and oil drilling off the North Carolina coast

-Continue to be open for ideas and suggestions to better serve our residents
