Spring sports start Feb. 14

For those who love high school spring sports, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association sends a valentine.
For the upcoming season, spring sports begin Feb. 14, 2018.
Two weeks later, Feb. 28 is the date for first spring contests, according to the association’s website.
And, on that first day, Manteo will visit Cape Hatteras for baseball and softball.
First Flight opens its baseball and softball season against Manteo March 2.
On March 9 and 10, Cape Hatteras will host its Sandlot Tournament. Four teams, Cleveland, Ocracoke, Currituck and Hatteras will play with Friday’s games starting at 4 and 7 p.m. and Saturday’s at noon and 3 p.m. for the championship.
Winter sports are not yet completed.
In basketball, conference tournaments play out this upcoming week.
On Feb. 17, seedings for the state basketball tournament are announced.
The state association’s individual regional wrestling contests happened Friday, Feb. 9 and the state championships are set for Feb. 15 through 17.
