Three basketball players saluted

A trio of Cape Hatteras senior basketball players were saluted in a traditional ceremony, Tuesday, Feb. 6 in the Hurricane gymnasium.

Savannah Scarborough, Caroline Gray and Emma Alvarez have played basketball together for four years.

This 2017-18 season culminates a dream. In the regular season, Cape Hatteras Girls Basketball Team is undefeated. The team posted a perfect 10-0 Atlantic Six Conference record and a 21-0 record overall.

The team finished the season with two wins over Mattamuskeet. In the second win, Gray scored 40 points.

Scarborough has also played soccer. Gray has pitched for the Lady Hurricanes softball team. Alvarez has also participated in cross country, softball and track and field.

All three have plans to pursue post-secondary education at universities. Gray wants to play college basketball. Alvarez wants to major in art and minor in marketing.

The girls will continue to play basketball in the conference tournament this upcoming week and in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state tournament. Seedings are scheduled to be announced Feb. 17.
