The student winners in the “Wear Red for Women’s Heart Health” poster contest have been announced by contest sponsors, Currituck’s Center for North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Sydney Gardner of Jarvisburg and Lydia Mollenkopf of Elizabeth City created the winning entries for the contest and their posters have been showing up at locations around the county, including at the county’s libraries, the YMCA, the county’s senior centers and the Extension Center. The posters can also be viewed online at http://go.ncsu.edu/hearthealthposterwinners2018.

For their creative posters, Sydney and Lydia were each awarded a $50 prize that was sponsored by Currituck Internal Medicine of Chesapeake Regional Medical Group.

The posters were designed in support of the Wear Red for Women’s Heart Health campaign that takes place across the country each year in celebration of February as American Heart Health Month, which helps raise awareness of cardiovascular disease along with steps for prevention. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death for women in the United States and can often be prevented through proper diet, exercise and care by a trained physician.
