KILL DEVIL HILLS, NC ­-   Lawrence William “Sonny” Holcomb, 65, of Kill Devil Hills, NC passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb. 17, after battling multiple illnesses.

Born July 9, 1952, he was the son of the late Joyce Owen Holcomb and George William Holcomb, Jr.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Dawn Williams-Holcomb; sons, Jacob William Holcomb (Malik) of Charlotte, NC, and Joshua William Holcomb of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Andrew, Jenna, Juliette, Jillian, Jayla, Jacie, Mason, Sophie, and Olivia; siblings, Drema Holcomb of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Amanda Patrick of Nags Head, NC, and Capt. George “Chip” William Holcomb III of Manteo, NC.; and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Patrick Henry High School, Roanoke, VA and Virginia Tech University and then joined the US Army in 1971, serving his country honorably. He then excelled in various aspects of sales; through property, auto, and the food and beverage industry. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, Sonny served as the director of marketing for Villages of Ocean Hills, continuing to Atlantic Realty, Coastal Chevrolet, and owning Sunman Auto Brokers after which he became the sales director for Midgette Auto Sales. He was also an intricate part of Dawn’s Kitchen Catering, overseeing events and marketing. Sonny had a great love for golf and cards.

In 2013, Sonny received a liver transplant. In 2017, he experienced kidney and congestive heart failure. Through Carolina Donor Services, at the time of his death, Sonny was able to donate his tissue, marrow, veins, and eyes.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Kilmarlic Golf Clubhouse.
