KITTY HAWK, NC – Barbara Ellen Getchell passed away in Nags Head Sunday, February 25, 2018 surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 71. Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Terry; her daughters, Carolyn Payton (Roger, Jr.) of Grandy, NC, and Jackie Manko (Greg) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; her brother, George Young II (Sue) of Saddlebrook, NJ; and two nephews, George Young III and Jonathan Young, also of New Jersey.

  Fueled by her passion for helping individuals and families, Barbara earned advanced degrees and became a licensed therapist. On the Outer Banks, Barbara worked with Dare and Currituck County’s school systems in their SAFE and Teen Court Programs and in Hotline’s Domestic Violence Shelter.

  A mass of the resurrection in Barbara’s memory will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church located at 301 W. Kitty Hawk Rd. in Kitty Hawk, NC at 10 am.  Donations in Barbara’s name can be made to the Outer Banks Hotline.
