Born on Sept. 10, 1960, Dennis Newbern died on February 22. He is survived by his  com-panion, Kelly Haggard; his mother, Patricia (Patsy) Walker Smith and stepfather Wibur Smith of Bells Island; brother, Danny Newbern, his wife Lisa of Powell’s Point and their daughters Kristin of Powell’s Point and Julie of WVA, brother, Andy Newbern and companion Andrea Midyette of Jarvisburg; daughter, Erica Givans and son-in-law Neil Givans of Aydlett; daughter, Andrea Newbern of Powell’s Point;  son,  John Hunter Newbern of Grandy;  and his grandchildren Gavin and Marlo Newbern of Powell’s Point and Eli and Adelia Givans of Aydlett; and many others.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-1942 or to NC Wildlife Resources Education Programs, c/o NC Wildlife Resources Commission, 1702 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC  27699-1702.
