James Flora Midgett

MANTEO, NC – James Flora Midgett, 76, of Manteo, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 after a brief illness.     He was born March 29, 1941 in Rodanthe, NC to Margaret  Frances Cuthrell  (Midgett)  of Washington, NC and Warren Jerome Midgett of Salvo, NC. James was an active member of Manteo Faith Baptist Church.

  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Edward Jerome (E.J.) Midgett, Larry Lee Midgett and sisters, Elaine Midgett Daniels and Linda Midgett Bright.

  James is survived by a son, Steven Midgett of New York state, and brothers Donald Midgett (Dianne) of Rocky Mount and Anthony Welch Midgett (Carol) of Fredericksburg, Va. , as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

James spent most of his career as a carpenter and truck driver for several construction companies in North Carolina and Virginia and retired home to Dare County in 2007 to enjoy his real passion of fishing. He was an enthusiastic parti-cipant of the Dare County Center senior programs in Manteo.

James will be remembered as a gentle man with a big heart, always ready with a smile and a joke to brighten your day.   He leaves behind his extended family,  cousins Cedric Grgurich and Joey Grgurich and wife Louise of Manteo and treasured friends Joyce Bell,  Dolly Rush, Sandy  Scarborough,  Officer Doug Moore, and others too numerous to be acknowledged here.

An informal memorial service will be held Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 pm at Faith Baptist Church, Burnside Rd., Manteo.  Pastor Steve Rhodes will officiate. All are invited to join James’ family in the Fellowship Hall for a casual gathering over light refresh-ments.
