Election season will soon heat up as five primaries are set for several regional seats in northeastern North Carolina.

The lineup was set when the candidate list closed at noon, Feb. 28.

In Currituck, Dare, Hyde and Tyrrell counties, the following Republican candidates for U.S. House of Representatives will vie for votes: Phil Law from Jacksonville, Scott Dacey from New Bern and current officeholder Walter Jones from Farmville. No Democrat signed up to run, so the May 8 primary election will determine the next U.S. Congressman unless an independent goes through the petition process.

In Currituck, Dare, Hyde and Tyrrell counties, May 8 primaries will be held in both parties for the nominee for North Carolina Senate District 1.

In May 9, Republicans Bob Steinberg from Edenton and Clark Twiddy from Colington will square off.

In the Democrat primary the same day, Richard S. (Steve) James from Winton and D. Cole Phelps are running for the nomination.

In Currituck, Dare, Hyde and Pamlico counties, Democrat Tess Judge from Kitty Hawk is unopposed for her party’s nomination for the North Carolina House of Representatives District 6 seat.

A Republican primary will be held between Beverly Boswell from Kill Devil Hills and Bobby Hanig from Powells Point for the same House District 6 seat.

Tyrrell County voters are in North Carolina House District 1. Two Republicans will run in the primary: Edward C. Goodwin from Edenton and Candice Hunter from Hertford. Democrat Ron Wesson from Windsor does not have a primary opponent.

For District Attorney, two incumbents are running unopposed.

Andrew Womble, Republican incumbent, wants to retain his position as District Attorney for Prosecutorial Judicial District 1 serving Currituck and Dare along with Gates, Pasquotank, Camden, Perquimans and Chowan.

For District Attorney in Prosecutorial District 2, Seth Edwards, a Democrat, is running unopposed for the position that serves Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell and Washington counties.
