Tyrrell County Schools added a second school resource officer on Monday, March 12.

“Chief Deputy Beth Floyd will be stationed at Tyrrell Elementary School full time for the remainder of the school year, thanks to the support of Sherriff Darryl Liverman and our county leadership,” announced Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent.

The Board of Education fully endorsed the plan and is deeply grateful to local law enforcement for their efforts to keep our schools safe, Dr. Hoffman stated. “The consistent presence of a full time SRO on each of our school campuses was our highest priority safety goal.”

The school system submitted a grant application to the state of North Carolina in February to fund an additional SRO position for the 2018-19 school year.

Deputy Karen Simmons is SRO on the high-middle school campus.
