Working around adverse weather conditions and school closings there were an assortment of wins and losses for Dare County sports teams.

In varsity baseball action the First Flight Nighthawks varsity baseball team had a tough week falling 11-1 on March 10 in a non-conference home game against Greenbrier Christian Academy and then scoring a 13-5 loss to Bear Grass Charter on March 13. Manteo’s varsity baseball team fared better in its away conference game March 14 defeating Camden County 12-4.

Manteo opened the week by canceling two softball games. The first between Manteo and Hatteras on March 12 followed by a March 13 softball contest between Manteo and Currituck. On March 14 the First Flight varsity softball team lost 7-3 in a home non-conference game against Bear Grass Charter while at Manteo it was the Camden Bruins over the Redskins 12-0.

As the weekend came to a close, on March 15 Manteo’s JV baseball team defeated Currituck 7-4 in a home non-conference game and the Redskins JV softball team, also playing a non-conference game at home, won a 24-10 game over Mattamuskeet.

On Tuesday, March 13, the First Flight varsity soccer team won its home conference game against Northeastern 9-0 while the Nighthawks varsity tennis team was handed a 7-2 conference match loss at Northeastern.

A March 12 Manteo soccer match with Hertford County was rescheduled for April 13 at 5 p.m. Results have not yet been made public from a track meet scheduled at Manteo High School on March 13.

Wednesday, March 14, brought a 12-5 boys varsity lacrosse win at Northside in Jacksonville and there was a 9-0 non-conference varsity soccer win at Manteo. A Manteo golf match set for Wednesday afternoon was canceled.

In Currituck County, the Knights hosted a track and field meet March 14 with teams from First Flight, Gates County and Hertford County competing.

First Flight swept the first three places in the boys 1600, girls 800 and took all eight places in the girls 200 to finish third in both boys and girls competitions.

Winning the varsity girls team was Hertford County with 80, host Currituck County was second with 73, First Flight finished third with 62 points and Gates County was fourth with 16.

For the varsity boys team scores, it was Hertford County in first place with 78.67 points, Currituck second with 74.33 points, First Flight in third with 66 and Gates County fourth with 30.

On the First Flight schedule for Friday, March 16, events included a varsity lacrosse conference game at J.H. Rose in Greenville, a varsity baseball non-conference game at Norfolk Christian in Norfolk, VA, and a First Flight varsity soccer non-conference game at Norfolk Academy in Norfolk, Va.

At Manteo the March 16 schedule called for all home games including a varsity non-conference soccer game with Cape Hatteras, a tennis match with First Flight and both varsity baseball and softball games with Perquimans.

On Saturday, March 17 the First Flight varsity baseball team will play a home non-conference game against Granby at 1 p.m. and the Nighthawks track teams are at Currituck again March 21 starting at 4 p.m.
