Foot chase in Manteo leads to arrest

On March 14, a Dare County Impact Unit was working in the Manteo area following up on some complaints about a vehicle parking around the Head Start School selling cocaine.

The Impact Unit located the vehicle and attempted to stop it on a traffic violation in the area of Burnside Road and Scarborough Street.

The driver of the vehicle backed into the patrol car and fled on foot. Dare County Sheriff’s Office Administration, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, School Resource Officer, K-9 Officer, Manteo Police Department and NC Highway Patrol all responded. A perimeter was quickly set up and the suspect was apprehended without incident.

Arrested was a man, 44 years of age from the 100 block of Nixon Road, Roper.

He was charged with the following misdemeanors: possession of marijuana up to a half ounce, possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia, resist and/or obstruct a Public Officer, driving while license revoked and vehicle registration violation

He is being held in the Dare County Detention Center on a $13,000 secured bond.
