AVON, NC ­- Howard Martin Meyer, 93, of Avon, NC died Monday, March 19. Born in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Elsie Suiss Meyer and Martin Meyer.

Howard served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II where he fought in the ETO. Also serving 27 years with the New York State National Guard, he retired as a First Sergeant of the 156th Artillery Batta-lion.

Howard is survived by a son, Geoffrey Meyer (Mary); grandson, Trevor G. Meyer; stepdaughter, Marcia O’Neill (Tom); and two step-grandchildren, Emily and Andrew O’Neill.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Maclin Meyer; his second wife, Jean Tennent Meyer; a grandson, Devin G. Meyer; and two sisters, Gloria Vanderhoof and Lorraine Schryver.

A private remembrance service will be held at a later date.
