The Manteo High School tennis team fell 6-3 to Bear Grass Charter Thursday, April 12, in a non-conference varsity match at Manteo.

With an inexperienced team, the Redskins have struggled this season.

“I only have two that have played before,” said Manteo coach Emily Dinoto.

Dinoto went on to say that Zane Edwards has shown a lot of improvement but was unable to play against Bear Grass.

The loss leaves Manteo 1-7 overall, and 1-2 in conference play with the next match set for 4 p.m. April 16 against Gates County at Manteo High School.

The only Manteo win this season was a 7-2 victory over Gates County on March 29.

On the soccer field, the Manteo High School Soccer team captured a 2-0 home field win over Cape Hatteras Thursday, April 12.

Scoring seven first half goals in an April 11 home match the First Flight Nighthawks added two more goals in the second half while coasting to a 9-0 non-conference victory over Edenton’s John A. Holmes High School.

Manteo’s soccer team, on Wednesday, fell 3-1 to Currituck while the Redskin JV baseball team was handing Northeastern a 13-0 loss. Playing at Manteo, the Manteo’s varsity baseball team won its game against the Camden 9-0, but the visiting Bruins softball squad proved too much for Manteo handing the Redskins a 10-0.

In conference track meet number three at Currituck County High School in Barco the First Flight boys placed second and Currituck was third while in girls competition Currituck County was the winner with First Flight against second.
