December 28, 1948 – May 11, 2018

Glenn Perry Hayes, 69, of 6141 Newlands Road, Columbia, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City after recent illnesses.

Born in Seattle, Washington, he was the son of Audrey Irene Irons of Seattle, and the late Edward Charles Hayes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Kathleen Hayes.

Mr. Hayes was a retired Chief Warrant Officer (CW02) with the U. S. Navy having joined in 1968 and served in many locations around the world, he also served as a nuclear inspector while working at Newport News shipyard. A member of Cabin Swamp Church of Christ, a member and past president of the Columbia Lions Club and a member of Gideons International. He loved talking to people, hearing their stories and telling his own.

A memorial service will be announced.

Surviving are a daughter, Christy H. Hufton and husband, Garry of Roper; a son, Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt), U.S. Air Force, Daniel E. Hayes and wife, Jill of Aviano Air Force Base, Italy; grandchildren, Colton and Allie Hufton, Kaitlyn H. Harvey and husband Tyler, Kiernan, Joah, Avianna and baby girl Hayes; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Ashton Harvey.

Also surviving a sister, Gail H. Jepson and husband, Ron of Seattle; a nephew, Seth Ambrose.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Hayes.
