On Tuesday, June 12, residents and visitors across northeast North Carolina and along the Outer Banks are invited to take part in Food Bank of the Albemarle’s “Dine Out to Help Out” fundraiser.

The event, now in its 24th year, includes restaurants from Dare, Currituck, Camden, Chowan, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties that have partnered with the Food Bank to generate additional funding to supplement the bank’s 140 hunger-relief efforts.

“We are excited to announce that the 2018 Dine Out to Help Out will include participation by over 70 restaurants, 14 of which are new to the Dine Out event,” said the food bank’s executive director, Liz Reasoner. “The funds raised through this hunger-relief initiative will provide nutritious food to thousands of people in need. We encourage patrons to thank their server and restaurant on Tuesday, June 12 for their support of food bank of the Albemarle through this incredible fundraising event.”

Dine Out to Help Out began in 1995 in response to the organization’s need to continue providing healthy, nutritious food to families facing food insecurity in northeast North Carolina. Many of the restaurants participating in the launch 24 years ago are still supporting the hunger-relief initiative to this day.

“Each year, Food Bank of the Albemarle awards the restaurant with the largest contribution to Dine Out,” Reasoner added. “Sam and Omie’s Restaurant and Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar on the Outer Banks have shared the Platinum Spoon award for over 20 years, and we are eternally grateful for their continued support.”

Each of the restaurants has agreed to donate 10 percent of the revenue generated on June 12 to the Food Bank of the Albemarle. This year’s fundraising goal is $19,000 which will provide over 79,000 meals for families facing food insecurity. For every dollar generated, the bank can provide four meals.
