Margaret Desmond died May 24, 2018. “Peggy,” as she was known, was born on Jan. 22, 1931, in Yonkers, New York, the daughter of the late William and Claire Carnegie.

In 1956, she married the late Frank Desmond in Yonkers, New York. Mr. Desmond predeceased Peggy while serving in the U. S. Navy in the 1950s.

After living in New York State and working in the dry-cleaning business for many years, Peggy retired to Florida in the 1980s. She moved to Kitty Hawk in the 1990s to care for her sister, Joan Barbey and lived there until Joan passed away in 2010. For the past eight years, Peggy has lived and been cared for by her nephew, Peter Barbey and his wife, Maureen, in Rockland County, New York.

In addition to Joan, Peggy also survived her twin sister, Reenie, and her older sister, Claire. She is survived by her younger sister, Barbara and her family of West Ghent, New York and numerous nieces and nephews from New York to California.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19,  at Southern Shores Cemetery.
