Authorities are working three ocean rescues along Outer Banks beaches this afternoon, one with what appears to be life-threatening injuries.

A swimmer caught in a rip current was flown by helicopter out for medical care after one rescue in Duck around 2:45 p.m., county officials said.

There were several other rescues going on at the same time, many involving several people caught in rip currents, said Dare County EMS Chief Jennie Collins.

The National Weather Service has Outer Banks beaches under an increased risk of rip currents today due to long-period swells from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl combined with high astronomical tides. The beaches north of Cape Hatteras are under a coastal flooding advisory tonight from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
