Due to heavy rainstorms over the weekend, many roads in Dare and Currituck counties have standing water on them, in some cases that water is quite deep, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said in a news release.

The town of Kill Devil Hills reported deep water at the following locations Monday afternoon:

There is approximately six inches of water on NC 12/Virginia Dare Trail between Holly Street north to Clark Street.

Water is also standing on Wrightsville Avenue from Clark Street north to Neptune Drive.

“Please stay out of these areas, if possible.  If you must enter an area with standing water, please drive slowly and do not create a wake with your vehicles,” the town said in a news release. “Water displaced by moving vehicles can wash into homes and businesses and cause property damage.”

NC12 South of Bonner to Hatteras Village has many areas of standing water, but traffic is getting through slowly.
