YOUR PHOTOS: Record-breaking rain

To say it’s been a wet couple weeks along the Outer Banks is an understatement, says the National Weather Service. As of Monday afternoon, 20 inches of rain had fallen at Cape Hatteras National Seashore this month, making it the second wettest July since record-keeping began in the 1800s.

The seashore was .95 inches away from the record, set in 1949. The majority of the area’s rainiest Julys were the result of tropical storms. Not this time. And more rain is expected Tuesday before a drier pattern emerges.
