George “Johnny” Samuel Johnson

George “Johnny” Samuel Johnson, 90, Columbia, died late Saturday, July 28, 2018, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Johnson County, Georgia on June 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Samuel M. and Eva Julia Loyd Johnson.  He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Alma Pallette Johnson.  He was later married to Jeannette Gallihugh Lowe-Johnson who survives.

Johnny was a veteran of the United States Navy and received the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1950.  He and his wife operated an eatery, The Lunchbox,  in Columbia alongside the Scuppernong River for several years.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Columbia Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service.  Steve Bryan and Mike Martin will officiate.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Allen W. Johnson of Virginia Beach, David M. Johnson of Currituck, Gary Lankford Johnson of Columbia and Joey Johnson of Knotts Island; a brother, James Grady Johnson of Lakeland, Florida and a sister, Mildred J. Patterson of Fellsmere, Florida; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials  be directed to the Tyrrell County Volunteer Fire Department, Columbia, 27925.
