Michael Eugene Zimmerman

Michael Eugene Zimmerman, 63, of Moyock, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 29, 2018.
A native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, he enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 18 years old. OSCM (SW) Zimmerman, a Vietnam Veteran, proudly served his country for 27 years on the USS Ticonderoga CG-47, USS Lawrence DDG-4, USS Yorktown CG-48 and USS Vicksburg CG-69. He retired in 2001 as Combat Systems/Command Master Chief from COMNAVSURFLANT, Norfolk.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Susan, his son Joseph Cavallo (Heidi), daughter Alison Bauer (Ben), daughter Danielle Cavallo-Fa’t (Dan), his beloved grandchildren Ashlyn, Adalyn and Alivia, his sisters and brothers Cindy (Tom), Stephanie (James), Valerie, Rick, Alicia (Kirby), Cheryl (Bobby), Scott (Tracy),Steve, special nephew (CPT Bradley Smith), nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many of his Navy brethren and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister (Lorrie).
A memorial service with military honors will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3 at Gallop Funeral Chapel Currituck, 4055 Caratoke Hwy, Barco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veteran’s or Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association.
