Multiple law enforcement groups will man DWI checkpoint

The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a D.W.I (driving while impaired) checking station on Friday, August 10, at the Currituck County rest stop between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight.

Assisting the Currituck Sheriff’s Office will be the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Duck Police Department, Nags Head Police Department, Kill Devil Hills Police Department, Elizabeth City Police Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office has been a participant of the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program since 2001. Part of this agency’s mission is to enforce all traffic laws to reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in Currituck County.

The Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit, or “BAT” Mobile, will also be on site during this event. This vehicle is used to house the County Magistrate along with the onsite breath alcohol testing machines.

Currituck Sheriff Matthew Beickert wants to impress the importance of not mixing alcohol and driving. Please plan ahead when consuming alcohol.
