County officials are working with Vector Disease Control to schedule mosquito spraying across the county.

In a news release Friday afternoon, county officials said Vector is mobilizing its workforce and spraying dates will be announced once the schedule is confirmed.

Residents and visitors had complained about mosquito infestations in the aftermath of late July and early August rain and flooding.

Residents who do not wish to have the spray trucks operate at their property, such as beekeepers, may call Vector at 1-800-413-4445 to provide their address on a “Do Not Spray” list.

During the spraying, Vector’s spray trucks will travel on public roads maintained by the NC Department of Transportation.  Each truck’s route will be tracked via GPS to ensure complete coverage of the county. However, the trucks will not enter private roads and they are not equipped to travel into the four-wheel drive section of Corolla.

The spraying will be done after dusk on nights when there is no rain and low winds. Residents are advised to not allow senior citizens, children, or pets near the spray trucks to avoid breathing in chemicals used in the spray.

In addition, mosquito briquettes are available for citizens at the Currituck Health Department. These briquettes may be placed in standing water, where a chemical will be released that kills mosquito larvae.  The Currituck Health Department is located at 2795 Caratoke Hwy, Currituck, NC 27929.
