Helen Marie Winfree Ore

Helen Marie Winfree Ore, formerly of Kill Devil Hills and Virginia Beach, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Aug. 8, 2018.

A Norfolk native, she graduated from Norview High School.

Helen was a longtime resident of Thalia Acres in Virginia Beach where she raised her family. Serving and helping others was her passion. She became a licensed practical nurse. Helen later served as a proud volunteer for the Outer Banks Hospital.

Helen loved her family and was blessed to have been Red Ore’s “Bride” for 60 years until he passed in 2009. They were active and enjoyed the friendship of their fellow neighbors known as “The Durham Street Gang.”

Helen is survived by her three daughters and families: Betsy and Keith Glass of Palm Harbor, Florida, Robin M. Ore of Venice, Florida and Suzanne and David Phelps of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown, Martin Glass, Brian Hershey, Will Phelps and Taylor Phelps; and great grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Helen Friend Winfree and Frederick E. Winfree and her brother, Richard A. Winfree. Her brother Frederick E. Winfree III and sister in law, Madeleine survives her along with many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank all the caregivers that loved and cared for Helen so compassionately. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 East Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, Virginia.
