Richard Allen Swain, 74, of Norfolk, Virginia formerly of Columbia died Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk.

Born April 9, 1944 in Tyrrell County he was the son of the late Jessie Richard Swain and Kathleen Etheridge Swain and was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Furlough Swain and brother, Jessie Michael Swain. Allen was a retired captain with the Norfolk Police Department and later opened and operated C-Tackle Shop. He was a member of Sound Side Free Will Baptist Church.

His family includes his daughter, Carolyn Kaye Swain of Norfolk; sisters, Vera Swain West of Elizabeth City, and Ann Swain Whitehurst of South Mills; brothers-in-law, Thomas D. Furlough and Leonard R. Furlough; sisters-in-law, Pollie F. Griffin and Linda F. Edmondson.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with the Rev. Royce Reynolds officiating. Burial will at Azalea Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 1-1:45 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
