In 1979, after spending a few years working in construction, Mike applied to Officer Candidate School for the United States Marine Corps. This began his 20-year journey in the Corps as a combat engineer leading to his retirement in 1999. Upon retiring, he moved to the town he always loved (Buxton) where he resided until his passing.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved the ocean and was often seen fishing or prowling the beach looking for seashells. Most children that he ran into ended up with a scotch bonnet and a few laughs.

Mike is survived by three sons, Grant Michael Dunnagan (Amber), Erik Martin Dunnagan, and Brad McCain Dunnagan; two grandchildren, Ciara and Cillian Dunnagan; and a brother, Charlie Dunnagan.

In keeping with Michael’s wishes, a formal service will not be held. More information for a celebration of life will be announced in the coming weeks.
