Florence weakens to Category 2; Hyde enacts curfew

Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 110 mph, the National Hurricane Center reported Wednesday night.

Florence, but life-threatening storm surge and flooding are still expected, the center said.

In Hyde County, the board of commissioners on Wednesday night issued a countywide curfew effective at 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. The curfew will be in effect daily from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice.

There are no other curfews in place along the Outer Banks as of Wednesday evening.

The last time curfews were enacted in the area was in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
