UPDATE: Water service restored in Manteo; boil water advisory in effect

The Town of Manteo has issued a boil water advisory after a  water main break Tuesday morning.

Water service was restored to most of the town by 9:45 a.m., after the system is experienced “periods of low pressure and an outage in the distribution system” the town said in an alert this morning.

Low pressure or no pressure increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system. Now that service is restored, the town advises that all water for human consumption be boiled. This includes water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

This office is strongly urging the water consumers to conserve water whenever possible.
