Nags Head pedestrian dies after being hit by car

A 19 year old man has died after being struck by a vehicle in Nags Head on Thursday evening, November 8.

Jovan Jordany Yurnet Matos, of Nags Head, was, according to witnesses, in the southbound lane of South Croatan Highway near Soundside Road when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same lane.

Nags Head police, called to the scene at 5:18 p.m., found the man unresponsive. A bike, believed to belong to the victim, was found undamaged on the west side of the highway. Matos was treated at the scene by Dare County EMS and transported to The Outer Banks Hospital, where we was declared dead.

The driver of the vehicle, a 52 year old Kill Devil Hills woman, was transported to Outer Banks Hospital and later released.

There is no immediate indication that drugs and/or alcohol were involved.
