Percy Comer “Midge” Midgett

Percy Comer Midgett died December 3 at the age of 91 surrounded by his wife Dorothy, his children James, Michael, Debra, Bruce and his best friend/brother-in-law Jose “Pepe” Fernandez. He is also survived by his granddaughters Sydney and Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest son Richard “OJ” Midgett and his six siblings.

Percy was born in Hatteras Village on July 18, 1927. As a young boy, he was moved to New York where he eventually met and married his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Fernandez. Percy was heavily involved with all sports his sons participated in. He coached, managed and often was an umpire.

Percy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, later working as an engineering supervisor. After retiring, he back to the Outer Banks, living in Frisco. He passed his retirement years playing golf at least four times a week at Duck Woods and tinkering in the garage. He also grew fig trees and loved fig preserves made by his wife.
