Dennis Ray Thompson

Dennis Ray Thompson, 61, of Kill Devil Hills, died Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Spring Arbor of the Outer Banks.

Born in Aiken, SC on May 22, 1957, he was the son of the late Jewel Anderson Thompson and Billy R. Thompson.

Dennis served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps as a gunner and expert marksman in Vietnam. He continued his service to his community as a police officer in Ripley, WV and Kill Devil Hills and as a detective in Southern Shores.

He enjoyed the beach, fishing, cooking and a good prank. He was a member of the Marine Corps League Outer Banks Detachment and actively supported and volunteered with many charities such as Toys for Tots.

Survivors include daughter Tabetha Thompson; son Dennis R. Thompson Jr., sisters Janet Mullins and Karen Parsons (Stanley), many nieces and nephews and his friend and caregiver Gina White (Curtis).

A funeral with military honors will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 13 at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo with Rev. Rick Lawernson officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. A graveside committal will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 15 at Fairplain Cemetery in Ripley, WV.
