David John Kennis, “Dave,” age 60, of Harbinger, died Friday, December 14, 2018, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Marilyn Kennis and the late Ronald Kennis.

Dave was born February 2, 1958, Groundhog Day, in Lockport, NY. He attended school in New York, Florida and North Carolina. In 1969, at age 11 Dave pulled the cord sounding the whistle to start Niagara Falls flowing again, completing work by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Dave was a loving father and enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, boating and camping with family and friends. Dave worked as a carpenter and for Outer Banks Recycling.

Dave is survived by his daughter Carmin Hope (Jeb) Ballard; granddaughter Rainy; great-grandson Zachary; brothers Michael (Elva), Larry, Thomas and Steven; sister Cathy (Ron) Howard; many nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.
