It’s in the cards for The Elizabethan Gardens

What’s the deal? Well, The Elizabethan Gardens, like many other non-profits, looks increasingly towards ways to build relationships and raise funds to continue growing. And a card party benefit scheduled for January 8 at Russo’s Bistro and Bar is part of several activities the non-profit has planned to grow their annual fund in new and exciting ways.

“I’ve heard it said that holding aces doesn’t ensure a win, the right moves do,” remarked Linda Davenport, Board of Governors chair of The Elizabethan Gardens. “We are looking to make the right moves and find new ways to have fun and keep growing our gardens.”

The card party benefit is a part of several recent ways The Elizabethan Gardens has reached donors near and far. Back in November, they connected local and regional artists to the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham) area by holding a pop-up art gallery benefit. In December, they had a Christmas party, hosted in the Foreman home in Wanchese.

“Our development committee has been really creative and active in their approach,” added Davenport. “They have really embraced the task.” Davenport is part of the 13-member volunteer board tasked to oversee the direction of the 67-year-old garden. The Elizabethan Gardens has been a project of The Garden Club of North Carolina since 1951.

Proceeds from these endeavors will benefit the annual fund. This fund is used to protect, preserve and improve the gardens. Currently, the historic attraction is undertaking several projects – a new educational center and a butterfly house. The annual fund helps offset costs unfunded by admission or grants.

The card party benefit at Russo’s Bistro and Bar in Kitty Hawk includes a luncheon and a silent auction. Card supplies will be provided. Members of The Elizabethan Gardens can enjoy a reduced admission. Complete details may be found online at www.elizabethangardens.org.

About The Elizabethan Gardens

Over six decades have passed since the Garden Club of North Carolina adopted The Elizabethan Gardens as a project in 1951, but their inspired vision remains as a growing testament to the women who adopted the project and the valiant Elizabethan explorers it was intended to honor. The Gardens is dedicated to sharing its unique history, providing educational opportunities, enhancing the quality of the visitors experience and preserving the beauty and tranquility of The Elizabethan Gardens. The attraction is located on the north end of Roanoke Island at 1411 National Park Drive in Manteo.
