Members of the NACIREMA: Anthropology and Sociology Club at College of The Albemarle recently worked with our local VFW Post 6060 to collect donations to aid in the relief efforts for individuals and their pets impacted by Hurricane Florence.  The Anthropology and Sociology Club’s mission is to help participants and the community to be aware of socially relevant issues and expose more people to the fields of anthropology and sociology while promoting education inside and outside of the classroom. A central goal of the club is to view the world through a holistic lens and appreciate cultural diversity through humanitarianism.

Dr. Carol Jo Evans is the club’s advisor and serves as associate professor of anthropology and sociology. Dr. Evans shared, “The Anthropology and Sociology Club has worked hard this semester to promote the club’s mission of humanitarianism and appreciation of cultural diversity. We continued our aspiration to work with local organizations in helping them with those who are in need. It has been an honor to work with our local VFW, as they are a great asset to our community. “

The club also set up a “Wishing Tree” for the holiday season to receive donations for the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and the local SPCA.
