Rodney Dale Ballance Sr., 78, of Manns Harbor, died Sunday, December 30, 2018. A native of Hatteras Island, he was the son of the late Mary Mabel Ballance Creef and Milon O’Neal.

A retired sales manager of Sears in Manteo, Rodney devoted over fifteen years to the Manns Harbor Volunteer Fire Department as deputy chief. He was a past president of the Manteo Lions Club and attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Rodney continued serving his community as a funeral assistant with Twiford Funeral Homes from 2004 until 2016.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Rogerson Ballance.

Rodney is survived by wife Rita C. Ballance; daughter Susan Wood (Curtis) of Greensboro; sons Rodney Ballance Jr. (Heather) of Branson, Mo. and Terry Ballance (Nicky) of Manteo; grandchildren Joel, Stephanie, Jonathan, Sarah and Nick; five great-grandchildren; and half-sister Gloria Jean Creef Doody of Manns Harbor.

A memorial service was held January 2 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
