July 24, 1928 – January 6, 2019

Manns Harbor – Lucinda Gallop Baum, 90, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Nags Head surrounded by her loving family.

Lucinda was born on July 24, 1928, in Dare County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Hiram Clyde and Mollie Shannon Gallop.  She touched many lives with her humor, generosity and whimsical imagination.  She raised her own five children and received and fed many more at her open table and welcoming home.  She taught herself guitar and loved to play and sing with her family. Lucinda was one of 14 children, which she documented in her delightful memoir about growing up in Dare County during the depression.  Even into her eighties, she loved rowing along the shoreline in her skiff “Mama’s Mink” gathering bottles and relics, clamming and enjoying the waterways on which she was raised in Manns Harbor.

We all loved more, lived more, and hoped more because Lucinda was in our lives.
