Members of the Roanoke Island Dog Park and friends met at the park to honor the memory of Judy Williams on Saturday, February 2. Williams led the initiative, along with the Dare County Board of Commissioners, to officially establish the RIDP. Members expressed appreciation for all involved in making the long-sought park a reality, including the BOC, which worked to further enhance the park by adding water, a shelter and gravel area.

The park has a special small dog enclosure with a separate entrance in addition to the larger play area. Representatives from the park group expressed thanks to county officials for their efforts, as well as Front Porch Café and PetSmart for provisions supplied for the gathering, and stated: “The park is not only a great place for pets, but has also become an active community gathering place where residents meet each other and engage . . . The park is a great example of how residents and the Dare County Board of Commissioners worked together to enrich the lives of residents.”
