Published 4:35 am Thursday, February 14, 2019

Painted buntings are southern birds that are seldom seen in this area, however, each fall a few show up on the Outer Banks to spend the winter. This stunning adult male was seen in a Southern Shores yard where it was visiting the bird feeders. The females and young males are green. Painted buntings are attracted to white millet.
