Fire destroys Southern Shores home

Firefighters from Nags Head to Duck battled an early morning Southern Shores fire that completely destroyed a South Dogwood Trail home Friday.

According to Southern Shores Fire Chief Ed Limbacher, crews were dispatched to a fully involved residential structure fire South Dogwood Trail at 4:29 a.m.

Limbacher said on arrival, the bulk of the three-story structure was already fully engulfed in flames, which firefighters knocked down within 10 minutes.

According to official reports, the owners of the home near the Duck Woods Country Club were out of town and the home was unoccupied.

Assisting the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department were fire department units from Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Colington and Nags Head. Dare County EMS and Southern Shores police also responded. There was no mention of anyone being injured in the fire.

Police and fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause.
