Kitty Hawk – Annie Catherine Jones Sanders, 91, of Kitty Hawk, NC surrounded by loved ones quietly passed to be with her Lord and to join her beloved Jimmy Ray on February 25, 2019, at her home.  Born February 11, 1928, in Blackstone Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Nora Spikes Jones and Joseph Addison Jones, both of Virginia.

Annie married the love of her life, the late Jimmy Ray Sanders of Elizabeth City on May 27, 1971. The two lived lives inseparable. Annie was a full-time homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, crabbing and caring for her husband of 47 years. She was a motorcycle enthusiast and danced on roller skates professionally during her youth. Annie worshipped at Sharon United Methodist Church in Poplar Branch. She was a member of the Currituck Senior line dancers, the Red Hat Group and was a faithful member of the Elizabeth City Grand Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 44. Annie held many offices during her years of services with the Eastern Star. As a dedicated Sister of the Eastern Star, she supported the Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership (ESTARL Program). The ESTARL scholarships are given to assist men and women preparing for the ministry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Elizabeth City Eastern Star, Chapter #44, 1603 Winslow Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

One brother, Bill Jones of Cummings, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews survive Annie. Annie also leaves behind many friends, neighbors, Golden Way caregivers, Dare County Hospice nurses and aids along with Billy and Ginger Candelora, all who loved and cared for her and who will miss her spunk and zest for life.

A celebration of life will be held at Sharon United Methodist Church, 275 Poplar Branch Rd. Poplar Branch, NC on Friday, March 1, 2019, at 12 noon. Family and friends will be received for the visitation at the church at 11 o’clock a.m. Rev. Dr. Susanna Fitch-Slater, Pastor, Sharon United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Private entombment will be at Laurel Memorial Gardens.
