Fatality, injuries in Moyock multi-vehicle crash

Units from Currituck Fire-EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Moyock Commons Drive and Caratoke Highway in the Moyock area of Currituck County at 4:12 P.M. today, April 17, for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, car vs. motorcycle, involving a fire. Units arrived minutes later to find a three-vehicle accident with an SUV and motorcycle on fire. Bystanders had already removed the driver of the SUV from the vehicle, according to a release from Currituck Fire-EMS.

While fire units from the Moyock Volunteer Fire Department and Crawford Township Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire, medics assessed the three patients. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver from the SUV was critically injured and the driver of the third vehicle (a pickup truck) sustained minor injuries.

The Sentara Nightingale helicopter air ambulance was called to the scene to transport the SUV driver. The driver of the pickup truck was transported by ground ambulance to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

The Chesapeake Fire Department, the Currituck County Sheriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol also responded.

The accident is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
