North Carolina Senator Bob Steinburg visited Dare County Schools on May 9 to discuss public education issues. Steinburg’s visit was in response to an invitation from the Dare County Board of Education to state lawmakers.

Board of Education chairman Bea Basnight led Steinburg on a tour of Manteo Elementary and Manteo High schools, both of which have received distinguished state awards. Manteo Elementary School was ranked in the top ten percent of all schools that exceeded academic growth. Manteo High School received a school performance grade of an A and placed in the top five percent of all schools in North Carolina, based on student academic achievement and growth.
