Summer programs planned at Hyde County-Davis Center

The Hyde County-Davis Center will offer summer programs for kids and teens. The classes are offered through Beaufort County Community College and include game design, art and science programs.

The programs include:

Art Camp (grades K through four) Activities include creating candles, painting rocks to hide in their community, make a tie-dyed pillowcase, faux staining glass and making bubble print butterflies. It takes place from 9:00 a.m. to12 noon on July 8-9 and costs $35.

STEM Camp (grades K through four) – Two days of awesome scientific projects to engage young learners. On the first day the class will build a safe volcano structure. On the second day participants will prepare an egg for a steep drop. Will it break? This program will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on July 10-11 and cost $35.

Art Camp (grades five through nine) – Students will make two advanced craft projects during this two-day camp. Participants will make a large paper mache letter to display at home, a batch of scented rainbow soap and make some fluffy bubblegum slime. This program takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on July 15-16 and costs $35.

STEM Camp (grades five through nine) – Young scientists and engineers will design and build a bridge, explore the chemical reactions that propel bottle rockets and compete to see who can keep an egg safe in a steep drop challenge. From 9 a.m. to 12 noon on July 17-18. The cost is $35.

Makeup, Hair and Nails (rising sixth through eighth graders) – Instructors from BCCC’s cosmetology program will offer advice for teen esthetic, skin care, proper hygiene, makeup skills, hair styling basics and applying nail polish. This program will take place at 6 to 8 p.m. on July 9-11 and it costs $35.

Google Game Design (ages 8 to 13) – Participants will learn how to program various types of digital games using the Google Computer Science First® and Scratch® interfaces. Game styles include racing, mazes, platform, strategy and others. The interactive program will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on July 22-25. The cost is $60.
