Killer Dunes race, fun run to support Friends of Jockey’s Ridge

Published 9:23 am Thursday, June 27, 2019

Start off your Independence Day by completing Killer Dunes, a two-mile course on the tallest natural sand dune in the Eastern United States. Attracting runners looking for a unique challenge – and drawing a very competitive field – participants are also welcome to walk the course instead (not just a “walk in the park” though).  A quarter-mile Fun Run will follow at 9:15 a.m.

Presented by the Outer Banks Running Club, the race proceeds will benefit Friends of Jockey’s Ridge, a local non-profit dedicated to preserving and enhancing Jockey’s Ridge State Park. The 2-Miler will be professionally timed and awards will be presented to all finishers, the top three males and top three females overall and the top three finishers in each age group. Post-race refreshments available for all participants.

Online registration is open until Wednesday, July 3 at 12 noon. On-site registration may be available at packet pick up on Wednesday, July 3 from 3-5 p.m. at Jockey’s Ridge State Park (milepost 12, Highway 158) and on race day, July 4, from 7-8 a.m. if the event is not sold out.
