Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

I love seeing the little children play at the beach. Building sandcastles, splashing in the water and throwing beach balls. There is no greater sound to me than a child laughing and giggling. These little people are teachable and full of adventure and are pure joy to be with and I learn so much from them!

One of the phrases in the song, “Jesus Loves Me” is, “Little ones to Him belong.” We must not forget this. Our children and grandchildren are on loan to us from God. We have the privilege to train them up, teach them, to provide, and at the right time, let them fly from the nest in search of their God-given purpose. Part of our work to prepare these little ones for a life of their own later is to be sure to equip them with God’s Words and Instruction. But first, we must be sure to introduce God to them from the beginning. Bedtime prayers and blessings at meals are good, but there is so much more. Bible stories, Sunday school and Vacation Bible school are designed to teach on the level the kids are on and to help them grow in their faith. It’s important to have friends that are learning about God too. And as parents and grandparents we should be monitoring what they see and hear from computers, TV and movies. I guess I am letting my passion show for these little ones. They are so pure, innocent and open to trust what is given them at a young age. As they get older, the world’s cultures will come at them and clash with their Christian upbringing. So it is important to lay that foundation of faith at a young age. Our prayers for the hearts of these dear ones must never cease. Charles Swindoll said, “Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” There is no greater or more important job in this world than to raise a child.
