Books at the beach: Two new Little Free Libraries in Kill Devil Hills

“The more that you read, the more you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go.” This popular quote from Dr. Seuss appears on one of the two new Little Free Libraries installed by the Town of Kill Devil Hills.

Recognized worldwide, Little Free Libraries were established to inspire a love of reading, community and creativity. They are a neighborhood book exchange: everyone is invited to either take a book or leave a book. The Little Free Libraries contain books for readers of all ages and they allow individuals 24/7 access to free books.

The Little Free Libraries in Kill Devil Hills were designed and constructed by Cannon Metcalf as an Eagle Scout project. At the Board of Commissioners’ June meeting, Metcalf formally donated his project to the town. The town installed the Little Free Libraries at two of their beach accesses: Glenmere “Hope” Beach Access and Ocean Bay Boulevard Beach Access.

“Get your beach chair and chose a book from one of the Little Free Libraries and enjoy your time at the beach!” said a press release from the town.
