In Docket No. E-22 Sub 562, Virginia Electric and Power Company, doing business as Dominion Energy North Carolina, filed a request to increase its rates for electric service.

Under Dominion’s proposal, a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity would see a monthly bill in the winter increase from about $108 to about $118. Similarly, a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity would see a monthly bill in the summer increase from about $122 to about $134.

For residential customers, Dominion’s proposed increase would be about 9 percent. Dominion proposes that the basic customer charge would increase from $10.40 to $11.92 per month.

The Commission scheduled three public hearings to take testimony from Dominion customers regarding the proposed rate increase as well as potential service quality concerns. Hearings were already held in Halifax and Williamston.

The Commission has also scheduled an evidentiary hearing for expert witness testimony which will begin at 2 p.m. on Sep. 23 and likely last for several days. There will not be an opportunity for public comments at this hearing, but the public is welcome to attend. The evidentiary hearing will be held in Commission Hearing Room 2115 in the Dobbs Building, 430 N Salisbury, Raleigh.

The rate increase will produce an additional $26.96 million in annual non-fuel revenue.

For small general service customers, the base customer charge will increase from $18.77 to $20.15 per month. For large general service customers, the base rate will move from $78.07 to $80.12 per month.
