First day is always terrific

The first day of the school term was bright and sunny and not too hot for the students, parents, teachers, staffers, bus drivers who streamed toward and into the two Hatteras Island public schools.
The first day is always full of good cheer at Cape Hatteras Elementary School. Classroom entrances are decorated. It’s a new year and children are excited. Some parents are a bit weepy but not many for they, too, share the excitement.
Some children ride the bus and some are delivered and escorted to classrooms by family members. One family brought flowers. Others were loaded down with requested supplies.
In the elementary classrooms, students quickly settled down to filling out or coloring work sheets.
At the secondary school, students in sixth through twelfth grades settled into classrooms. Assistant Superintendent for Dare Schools Sandy Kinzel visited with the system’s Principal of the Year Beth Rooks.
Both Cape Hatteras Elementary and Cape Hatteras Secondary schools have experienced increased registrations for the 2019-2020 school term.
